Courses from Bluebell Design Studio

We offer a range of courses in PMC, both at Bluebell Design Studio in Crossgates, Dunfermline and at The Bead Shop Scotland’s premises in Edinbugh and Haddington.

All courses cover the following basics:

  • Handling PMC and understanding the potential and limitations of the material
  • Moulding, shaping or stamping your design
  • Drying and finishing the piece before firing
  • Firing the piece with a kitchen blowtorch (we give you safe guidance)
  • Getting a professional finish to your work.

Bluebell Design Beginner Full-day PMC workshop

Duration: Usually 9.30am til 5.30pm

Location: Crossgates, Fife

Maximum participants: 4

Cost: £120

Suitability: Beginner and Intermediate

Design and create a minimum of three unique pieces to take away the same day. Under our expert guidance you can work through the whole process from planning and creating your piece to firing and finishing.

This day-long course offers plenty of time for one-on-one coaching and to work on your own unique designs. Bring some inspiration with you or have a look at our pieces on display to give you some ideas.

The course fee includes 25g of PMC3 in lump and syringe form, the use of all tools and firing equipment and any ancillary products that you will use including stones and findings

Introduction to PMC

Duration: Usually 6pm til 9pm

Location: The Bead Shop Scotland, Stockbridge or Haddington branch

Maximum participants: 6

Cost: £45

Suitability: Beginner

An easy introduction to working with PMC and a good taster course for complete beginners.

Run in partnership with the Bead Shop Scotland, students are introduced to PMC and will create a single piece of jewellery (usually a pendant) following standard design templates. This serves as an excellent foundation for more advanced work.

The course fee includes the PMC required for the project and the use of all tools and firing equipment.

Ring Making Workshop

Duration: Usually 9:30am til 5.00pm

Location: Crossgates, Fife

Maximum participants: 4

Suitability: Intermediate - some basic PMC experience required

Design and create a band ring with embellishments and/or ring topper to take away the same day. Under our expert guidance this course will show you how to size your ring, create your ring shank on a mandrel and embellish as you please. This course allows plenty of time and clay to design and make another project piece in addition to your ring ensuring the day will pass in an exciting blur of PMC creatvity!

The course fee includes 25g of PMC3 in lump and syringe form, the use of all tools and firing equipment and any ancillary products that you will use including stones and findings

Play with Paste

Duration: Usually 9:30am til 5.30pm

Location: Crossgates, Fife

Suitability: Beginner

Using paste to create new silver jewellery can be so versatile but also one of the simplest ways to get a stunning piece. Calling all people who are nervous using clay - this day is for you! In this class we will be covering how to make a silver piece of jewellery from an organic object (usually a leaf or seed pod) and how to use ceramic beads to add some silver to your already burgeoning bead collection!

The course includes at least 25g of clay in paste and lump form, the use of all tools and firing equipment and any ancillary products that you may need, including stones and findings.

Adding Colour to your Clay

Duration: Usually 9:30am til 5.30pm

Location: Crossgates, Fife

Suitability: Some experience with silver clay required

In this class, learn how to zhuzz up your silver pieces with colour! We will be using cold enamels and polymer clay to add that special something to your already gorgeous pieces . Since there is no need for a kiln to add colour, you can take these skills away with you and continue making colour creations at home.

The course includes 25g of clay in lump form, use of paste and syringe, the use of all tools and firing equipment and any ancillary products that you will use, including polymer clay, resin and coloured pencils.

Bluebell Design Intermediate Full Day PMC Workshop

Duration: Usually 9:30am till 5:30pm

Location: Crossgates, Fife

Suitability: Some experience with silver clay required, preferably in the Bluebell Design Full Day PMC Workshop.

This course is for those of you who want to try something a little more challenging for your PMC! In this class we will be focussing on three new techniques; Keum Boo – the ancient Korean art of covering your PMC pieces with gold foil. Embedding pure silver wire and commercial pure silver findings into your piece of PMC and firing them together. Finally setting a dichroic glass cabochon in a pendant or brooch. This is a great day to stretch yourself and learn some new and very useful techniques.

The course includes 25g of clay in lump form, use of paste and syringe, the use of all tools and firing equipment and any ancillary products that you will use, including pure gold foil, fine silver wire and findings and dichroic glass

PMC Charm Bracelet

Join this class and make a charm bracelet that’s personal to you and that you want to wear! In this class we’ll be combining two extremely complimentary techniques. We will be making a very popular and effective Chain Maille bracelet called the Barrel Weave and you will be given enough clay to make at least two charms and a clasp to adorn your new bracelet. Come with your wrists unadorned and walk away with a unique fully handmade charm bracelet designed and created by you and for you!

The course fee includes the use of all tools and equipment, 25g of PMC3 in lump and syringe form, enough sterling silver jump rings to make a curb chain bracelet to your required length and a sterling silver toggle clasp

Champleve Enamelling

Duration: Usually 9:30am till 5:30pm

Location: Crossgates, Fife

Suitability: Some experience with silver clay required, preferably in the Bluebell Design Full Day PMC Workshop.

Champlevé enamelling is a simple but exciting method of adding enamel to your PMC. In this course you will learn how to make your PMC pieces ready for the enamel to be applied, how to prepare the enamels and apply them to your PMC pieces and how to fire the enamels in a kiln. Create your pieces and, using stunning enamels, add beautiful, permanent colour with depth and richness.

The course fee includes the use of all tools and equipment, 25g of PMC3 in lump and syringe form and enamels. Please be aware, you should not use lead based enamels if you are pregnant.
